Shortly after acquiring the property, Sir Francis Kinloch rose to prominence as Lord Provost of Edinburgh and, in 1686, was created a baronet of Gilmerton. Nearly two centuries later, Sir David Kinloch, the 13th Baronet, returned to the estate in 1980 to restore it from disrepair, ushering in a new era of revitalization.

Among his most impactful improvements was the installation of an environmentally friendly biomass boiler system—an innovation that continues to provide the remarkable warmth and comfort guests feel from the moment they step inside.
